Stop and smell the Roses

Shouldn’t we all take a little time to stop and smell the flowers?  Well, Will has.  At the old house, we took away all of the plants when the house went on the market, both fake and real.  In the new house, we’ve started putting plants back.  Real plants are still an issue because Will really likes to play in the dirt.  So on the floor next to all of our real plants are small piles of dirt.  😦  I have to carry Will almost daily to the sink and wash off his hands from the dirt.  He is all boy!  The fake flowers obviously don’t have dirt, so they aren’t as messy, but I figured they would be a good teaching tool.  The problem was that Will liked to hit/beat them.  😦  Although it doesn’t damage the fake plants, I didn’t want him to think that he could do that to the real plants.  So I’ve started telling him not to hit, to smell the flowers.  I’ve been showing him what to do, so now he’ll lean in to the plants and since he can’t sniff in through his nose, he’ll blow out through his mouth.  It is so cute.  He goes up to all of the fake plants, and even some things that aren’t really plants, leans in and blows.  If you ask him to smell the flowers, he’ll lean his head down and blow.  It is really cute!  🙂
