Halloween in the new ‘hood

2010 is our first Halloween in our new house.  The LP (Legacy Park . . . our old neighborhood) had crazy trick-or-treaters.  Literally, all of the kids from all over Indian Land and Lancaster would drive to the LP to go trick-or-treating.  Since I was a teacher in the middle school, all of the older kids knew me.  For hours every Halloween, the door bell would ring, I would answer the door and one of two things would happen, either kids would take off running because they couldn’t handle seeing their teacher outside of school, or they would think it was super cool that they found my house.  Then well after 9pm, the door bell would ring, we wouldn’t answer it (because we deemed it too late) and then you could hear the kids outside screaming, “This is Mrs. Walton’s house.”

We assumed since our new ‘hood is full of kids it would be just as crazy.  Surprisingly, it was more tame.  I think it was because only the kids that live in this neighborhood trick-or-treat, instead of the entire county driving in and partaking.  It was actually nice to not be quite as crazy, and in this neighborhood we only know 3 families instead of all of the teenagers.  🙂  Jim and I dressed up in our old standby costumes (the Twinkie and the Jail bird), and we put Will back in his chicken costume.  He liked it so much more than the night before, maybe he knew it was actually Halloween.  🙂  We put the lawn chairs in the driveway and handed out candy.  Since Will is too little to eat candy, we didn’t take him house to house.  I brought out a plate of veggies for Will, and he ran around the front yard.  He had a blast playing outside while all of the kids came to trick-or-treat.  At one point someone came by with a dog.  Will was chasing after them down the sidewalk.  He just cried when I stopped him from getting too far.  He loves dogs!

Will was dancing away in his costume. He loved it!
